Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the PREVALENCE of D-Hepatitis in DIALYSIS patients and also to compare the results of this group with blood DONORs (normal population). This study was conducted in Tehran. Totally, 230 samples of DIALYSIS patients and blood DONORs were examined. 219 cases (95.2%) were anti HDV positive. In the group of dyalysis patients, 18 cases (25.3%) were anti HDV positive. Only 2 cases (1.3%) of blood DONORs were anti-HDV positive. In other words, 25 cases (8.7%) of samples (blood DONORs + Dyalysis patients) were anti HDV positive. None of the samples were HDVAg positive. Meanwhile in this study the relation between HDV antibody and other factors was statistically considered. The relation between anti HDV antibody with period of DIALYSIS, number of times of DIALYSIS in a month and also contamination of the DIALYSIS machine showed a significant correlation. 7 cases (38.8%) of DIALYSIS patients were anti-HDV positive. They were exposed to iiemody alysis 12 times in a month. 4 cases (22%) of anti- HDV positives were DIALYSIS patients. They wele more than 10 years exposed to DIALYSIS. A significant correlation between anti- HDV antibody in the serum and personal history such as (blood transfusion, different operations, etc). In both groups (Dialysis patients 'and blood DONORs) was considered.
