Abstract

Introduction: PULPOTOMY is one of routine methods for pulp therapy of primary teeth. At present, it is a fact that an ideal agent for this has not yet been discovered. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical and radiographic success rates of FERRIC SULFATE pulpotomies with FORMOCRESOL pulpolomies in human primary molar teeth. Methods: In this clinical trial study, pulpotomies were performed on 69 primary molars in children aged between 5-10 years. The teeth were treated using either conventional FORMOCRESOL (35) or FERRIC SULFATE (34). Following the PULPOTOMY procedure, the teeth were evaluated both clinically and radiographically at 3,6 and 9 months after the procedure. Finally, data was collected and assessed with Fishers exact test. Results: After 9 months follow up, the clinical and radiographic success rate for FERRIC SULFATE group was 100% and 80%, while for the FORMOCRESOL group, it was 100% and 96%, respectively. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: Although FERRIC SULFATE has been successful and is less toxic , that it may be a proper substitute for FORMOCRESOL in primary molars pulpotomies needs further research using larger samples and longer evaluation periods.
