Abstract

Children can grow over short period of time, and physician must be aware of normal growth and development standards. SHORT STATURE is one of the most frequent complaints referred to endocrine clinics. Ethiologic diagnosis of various causes of failure is essential for better and correct management of patients. In a case series study, 111 patients (74 male, and 37 female) were studied during 1997-98. patients age, sex, parents’ hight, routine biomedical tests, thyroid function tests, provocative GROWTH HORMONE (GH) tests (including dexamethazone and clonidine) and bone age were measured. The mean patient age was 13.6±3.1 SD (with range 5.5 to 19 years). The most frequent cause of SHORT STATURE were constitutional growth delay in 40 (36 percents) and GH DEFICIENCY in 32 (28.8 percents) of cases respectively. The mean Patients hight was 130±14.8 Cm, bone age was 9.65±3.55 years, SD score was -4±1.59 and height age was 10.3±2.92 years respectively. The bulk of studies all over the word had shown that constitutional growth delay, familial SHORT STATURE, and GH DEFICIENCY are the most frequent causes of SHORT STATURE, and it is in according to our study that showed 84 percent of cases had constitutional delay, GH DEFICIENCY or FAMILIAL FORMS.
