Abstract

In contemporary societies, the mass media enjoys an important position. Gaining necessary knowledge depends on the messages of these mass media. In addition to the function of dissemination of information, TV is considered as one of the main agents of socialization. In the theory of SOCIAL EXPECTATIONS, through TV images, the society can gain information on norms, roles and existing hierarchies in social groups. When engaged in these relations, society acts on the basis of its teachings. One of the popular subjects that is displayed in TV is FAMILY. In order to learn how an image of FAMILY is presented on TV, by the analytical method, the locally produced films on children and young adults were studied on Channels One and Two of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) in the time period of 1996-1997. The general features of these films, the type of families, role-division, authority of the FAMILY, and personal interaction were among the considerable points of this review. At the same time the manner of presentation of womans role in these films were more emphasized. As wife /mother , women are more active than other members of the FAMILY for creating conflicts in FAMILY relations.
