INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND IMPROVING KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT: TOOLS AND CHALLENGES

Abstract

 With the development of IT in organizations‚ using of it is increasing in KM too. Using LAN‚ Intranet‚ email and databases have an effective role in KM. What in IT is important is the information base thought or thought that is composed of a collection of productive and reliable information. It has the most contribution in km in a way that it is hidden behind all KM activities but it is not the only element of KM. Other elements such as the changing organization structure and process of decision making as well are important in KM components.Most analysis show that the emergence of technologies facilitates the distribution and performance of KM but there is this view that these technologies sometimes are anti-knowledge and anti-KM and only store information not knowledge.The aim of this article is to show the role of modern technological tools for improving KM‚ for example Intranet‚ databases of organization and the use of IT in the improvement of KM in Iran and in other countries. The paper also describes the advantages and probable disadvantages of these tools in KM.
