Abstract

The present paper aims to present a TYPOLOGY for various types of traditional co-operations in Iran. Based on the direction of the cooperation action, it can be divided into three broad categories: Innerdirected, Outer-directed, and Inter-directed. A salient example for outer-directed co-operation is OTHER-HELP which can be sub-divided into some types. SELF-HELP is an example for inner-directed cooperation which can be sub-divided into: shared and unshared. HAMYARY is the salient example for inter-directed co-operation which is similar to OTHER-HELP in some respects and is similar to SELF-HELP in other respects. According to the above categorization, the TRADITIONAL CO-OPERATIVES can be classified into: co-operatives directed to self help such as Boneh, co-operatives directed to HAMYARY like Vareh or Shir-Vareh, and finally co-operatives directed to OTHER-HELP such as Vaghfi organizations. These three types of co-operation can be combined to form new types which are functional in certain circumstances.
