Abstract

Formalism is one of the various schools of literary criticism that formed in about 1920 in Russia. FORMALISTs view literature as a purely linguistic category and to them the only way to achieve the desired effect is form. Mersad-ol-Ebad is one of the most significant works of Persian literature and its review with a FORMALISTic approach seems necessary. This research reviews the second chapter of the book Mersad-ol-Ebad based on the FORMALISTic approach and attempts to clarify how this great mystic has transferred his lofty ideas through phonemes, words and creating novel images.
