Title

THE COMPARISON OF HALOPERIDOL, MIDAZOLAM AND PLACEBO EFFECT IN THE DELIRIUM TREATMENT ON ADULT MALE RAT BASED ON BEHAVIOURAL CHANGES

  63-70

Abstract

Backgrond: DELIRIUM is a change in consciousness and ability to focus and attention. It is reducing costs and increasing the time patients stay in hospital. While sedative and hypnotic drugs reduce pain and anxiety, but according to studies conducted, it is one of the risk factors of DELIRIUM. HALOPERIDOL has more therapeutic use due to low anticholinergic activity, low drug interactions and metabolites.Materials and Methods: This search is experimental method and 90 adult male rats were studied. BIPERIDEN 40 mg/kg and LPS 50mg/kg were administered to two groups of 42 mice. DELIRIUM confirmed by studying the behavior of mice for 60 minutes. The control group consisted of 6 mice. The dose and effect of HALOPERIDOL was evaluated for treatment of DELIRIUM comparison with MIDAZOLAM in test groups by studying the behavior of DELIRIUM in 30 minutes after injection (p≤0.01 in HALOPERIDOL group 0.2mg/kg compromise with MIDAZOLAM 0.5mg/kgand1mg/kg). To analyze the data, Kruskal-Wallis test and man_u_witney post test were run using SPSS software.Findings: DELIRIUMin created in this study was 16% hyperactive, 20% hypoactive and the rest were mixed. Both drugs HALOPERIDOL and MIDAZOLAM were effective on hyperactive standards of behavior (p≤ 0.05in HALOPERIDOL group 0.1mg/kg and MIDAZOLAM 0.25mg/kg). HALOPERIDOL in low doses were effective on hypoactive DELIRIUM, while dose of 0.5 mg/kg had no significant effect. Therapeutic effect of MIDAZOLAM at low doses in this case was significant but dose of 1mg/kg worse this situation. Conclusion: The findings of this study showed the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of DELIRIUM, especially hypoactive type, because, improper treatment (excessive dosing of MIDAZOLAM) worsens prognosis and condition patient's.
