Title

EFFECT OF 8-WEEK EXERCISE ON NO METABOLITES IN UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL PLAYERS

Pages

  181-186

Abstract

Background: Extreme pressure on muscle during EXERCISE may lead to muscle injuries. Prior investigators have evaluated CK as the muscle activity index, however, recent studies have concerned NO and its metabolites as useful tools for evaluating muscle activity. We have determined the effects of8-wcek EXERCISE on NO metabolites as well as CK concentration in university FOOTBALL PLAYERs.Materials and methods: Fifteen FOOTBALL PLAYERs trained under the supervision of researchers in an 8-wcek camp. Cases were sampled in 7 steps. The first was carried out at the beginning of the EXERCISE and the others were performed in 3 stages with definite intervals (each time in two steps, before and after each session). NO and CK levels were determined using Griess and enzymatic methods, respectively. Results: Pre- and post-EXERCISE mean differences of NO and CK levels were as below: 37±6µM and 565±52 lU/L, 43±3µM and 703±50 lU/L, and 52±6µM and 602±76 lU/L for the first. second and third step. respectively. (p=0.001) Results indicated that CK-changes have increased till the middle of the EXERCISE course and then decreased. These changes were associated with the EXERCISE severity. However, the NO level was increased till the end of the EXERCISE course. It seems as if NO increase is useful, especially with respect to its vasodilatation effects. Conclusion: Since we have not found such a study before, we recommend further studies.
