Abstract

A rare of PERIPHERAL NERVE TUMOR, without neurofibromatosis, in a young 28 year old woman is reported. These tumors can be seen anywhere in the upper aerodigestive system, but they are very rare in the posterior third of the tongue. This patient had a three-month history of dysphagia and rhinolalia. On examination a large, firm tumor was seen on the left side of the posterior portion of the tongue. After a thorough and comprehensive evaluation, including CT scan and thyroid scan, FNA and tissue biopsy were done. Pathologic report was Schwanoma, and based upon this diagnosis a complete excision of the tumor was performed.
