Abstract

Renal colic is a common, emergency in urology. Renal colic is usually treated with narcotic analgesics or diclofenac sodium alone or combined with a spasmolytic agent (hyoscine). Side effects and risk of these drugs indicate the need for study compares the effectiveness of diclofenac sodium with diclofenac combined with hyoscin in renal colic.In this Experimental study done in Alzahra and Noor hospitals, patients with attacks of renal colic admited to emergency wards were studied. All were examinent and who fulfilled clinical criteria of renal colic admited to emergency wards were randomly allocated to treatment with IM injection of either 75 mg diclofenac or 75 mg diclofemac with 20 mg hyoscine.Before the injection, patient's pain was recorded as mild, moderate or severe. The analgesic effect 30, 60 and 90 minutes after injection was assessed in patients with diagnosis of renal colic.56 patient treatments with diclofenac and 48 patients with diclofenac + hyoscine. Complete reliefe of pain in 48 of 50 patients treated with diclofenac (85.7%) and in 43 of 48 patients treated with diclofenac + hyoscine (89.5%).This study shows that intramuscular injection of diclofenac is remarkably effective in treating attacks of renal colic and hyoscin the least effect in complete relife of pain.
