Abstract

Variation in connections of the musculocutaneous and median nerves in the brachial plexus are common. The present report describes a case of variation in a 45 year old male cadaver observed during routine educational dissection. The median nerve roots was formed by two roots; one each from the lateral and medial cords and the third root was originating from the musculocutaneous nerve. This abnormal third root after passing out through coracobrachialis muscle was lying on lateral side of brachial artery and in the middle of the arm joined the median nerve. No accurate description of a similar case has been found in the literature. Awareness of this type of variation while planning a surgery in the region of the axilla or arm; can prevent injury and damage the nerves and avoid possible clinical implication during operations. The clinical significance and importance of such kind of variation has been discussed.
