Abstract

 Introduction: Clomiphene citrate (CC) is commonly used for ovulation induction. However, pregnancy rate following induction with cc is lower expected for the number of follicles produced. This may be the result of the antiestrogenic effect of CC on the endometrium. Tamoxifen (Tx) acts as an estrogenic agonist on enometrial cells of causes endometrial hypesplasia after prolonged used. In this study we compare the effect of CC with TX on endometrial thickness in ovulation induction. Methods: This study is a comparative clinical trial one. In these study women who were infertile and candidate for ovulation induction were divided into three groups accidently. Each group was consisted of 35 women. In A& B groups CC & TX were administered 100mg/d and 20mg/d respectively from the 3th day of menstrual cycle for 5 days. In C group, CC and TX were taken in combination from 3th of the day the menstrual cycle for 5 days with the same dose in A&B groups. Ultrasonography was done in 14th day of menstrual cycle to measure endometrial thickness & the number of follicles greater than 17mm. Results: The mean of endometrial thickness in A, BBC groups were (Mean± SD) (7/94±0.96), (8/97±0.70) & (9/51 ± 0161) mm respectively. According to variance analysis, significant difference was seen between the groups (p<0.001). The mean number of follicles greater than 17mm in A,B & C groups were (3/11±0.96), (l/80±0.71) & (2/60±1/2) respectively. According to variance analysis significant difference was seen between the groups (p<0.001). Discussion: According to the above, the role of Tx on endometrial thickness is better than CC, and the role of CC in the development of dominant follicles is better than TX.
