Abstract

Introduction: To compare the effectiveness of pharmacotherpay and combined therapy in children and adolescents with obsessive compulsive disorder.Methods: Twenty five children aged between six and eighteen years were randomly assigned to clomipramin (n =12) or combined therapy (n =13) in a parallel design lasting eight weeks. Behaviour therapy included exposure and response prevention administrated in weekly sessions. The mean dosage of clomipramin was 1-3 mg/kg. Children's Yale-Brown obsessive compulsive scale and madsley obsessive compulsive scale were used.Results: Significant improvement was obtained in both treatment, but combined therapy produced stronger therapeutic changes. Discussion: Combined therapy (clomipramin and behaviour therapy) is the first choice of treatment in children with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
