Abstract

Kikuchi-Fujimoto's disease, also called histiocytic necrotizing LYMPHADENITIS, is an exteremly rare self-limiting reactive process, which almost always present with cervical LYMPHADENOPATHY, occasionally associated with fever or skin rashes.Most patients are young adults predominantly females. Etiology is unknown although viruses or autoimmune disorders are suspected.Final diagnostic key is lymph node biopsy and histologic study. The pathogonomonic histopathologic feature is necrotic foci rich in karyorrhectic debris surrounded by immunoblasts, histiocytes and plasmacytoid monocytes, but lacking plasma cells, neutrophils and eosinophils. This disease is a benign process and most patients recover in one to four months without therapy.We report five histopathologically diagnosed cases of the disease and reviewing related literature.
