Abstract

Introduction: Increase of TRIGLYCERIDE and CHOLESTEROL is considered as a risk factor for cardio-vascular diseases, and the effect of CIGARETTE and OPIUM on the level of blood lipids has been discussed in limited researches.Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on all who referred (750 males and 1292 females over 20 years old) to the health clinic of Kerman for checking up themselves.Weight and height of them were measured and body mass index (BMI) were determined by Auto - analyzer RA1000. Demographic information, addiction type and status were gathered by filling out a questionnaire and interview as well.Findings: Results showed that addiction to CIGARETTE and OPIUM has significant prevalence in Kerman community specially among males, so that about 30% of the males and 5% of the females declared that they smoke CIGARETTE, OPIUM or both of them. Data analysis showed that the serum levels of CHOLESTEROL and TRIGLYCERIDE in addicts were higher than non - female and male addicts.Conclusion: Results of this study underlines the necessity of education of adverse effects of CIGARETTE and OPIUM on increasing of blood lipids.
