Abstract

Regarding that hyperlipidemia and obesity are considered as the main risk factors in coronary heart diseases, to conduct epidemiologic studies about this topic in different parts of our country seems necessary.The research was a cross - sectional study in nature and carried out on 2048 normal persons over 20 years old (756 males and 1292 females) who referred to the health clinic of Kerman, for check up.A fasting blood sample was examined for the levels of CHOLESTEROL and TRIGLYCERIDE. Weight and height were measured and body mass index (BMI) was calculated.Results showed that the mean of BMI, TRIGLYCERIDE and CHOLESTEROL were 25± kg/m2, 160±98 mg/dl and 191±45 mg/dl respectively. The percentage of those with BMI≥25 was 46%, of those with TRIGLYCERIDE over 200 mg/dl was 23%, of those with CHOLESTEROL over 239 was 13%.In multiple stepwise regressions, BMI was recognized as the most important modifiable determinant of the levels of lipids.According to the results, it is necessary to give more information about the importance of controlling BMI and paying more attention to the nutritional status and physical activity.
