Abstract

Background: PSORIASIS is a well-known disease with relatively unknown etiology. Controversies were exist regarding the role of SELENIUM PLASMA LEVEL in PSORIASIS, thus, the present study was performed over the patients referring to Loghman Hakim hospital in 2000. Materials and methods: In this case-control study, 60 patients have been equally distributed in two groups of case (with PSORIASIS) and control. Groups were matched according to the sex and age. Ice blood sample was obtained and selenium level was determined through atomic absorption technique. Selenium level of 10-35 μg/dl was considered as normal. Results: The mean age of case and control group was 42±15 and 38±10 years. F/M ratio was 817. Selenium level was reported 20.3±10.3 and 20.3±9.5 /Jog/dl in the case and control group, respectively (NS). Selenium level was demonstrated to be normal in 83% of the candidates. Conclusion: There was no relationship between SELENIUM PLASMA LEVEL and PSORIASIS. Further studies in other geographical regions are highly recommended.
