Abstract

Background: One of the most unknown aspects of Iranian community is REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH need of youth; concerning their KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE and practice. The aim of the study was to assess KNOWLEDGE and ATTITUDE of Qazvin universities students about REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH and the related factors. It was intended to show related needs, and to impress them to the health and policy makers of the community. Hopefully, the future plans could be based on real needs of youth.Material and methods: This was a cross sectional study. Using quota sampling. 1117 male and female students of Qazvin Medical Science University as well as students of engineering, basic science and social science of International University of Qazvin participated in the study. The self completed questionnaire contained 43 close questions respecting to REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH, including family planning, STDs/AIDS and the preventional methods. ATTITUDE was assessed by 10 statements about REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH and based on Lickert scale. The data were analyzed by SPSS and using tests such as mann-withney, Spearman and Chi square.Results: 645 of participants were female and 457 were male (mean age=21.4±2.4 and 22.7±3.5, respectively). Medical sciences" students had a significant higher KNOWLEDGE about REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH comparing with other students (Kruskal-valis, p<0.05). Female students had a significant higher KNOWLEDGE about STDs/AIDS (Mann whitney U test, p<0.05). Male students obtained significant higher scores comparing females (Mann- Whitney U Test, p<0.05).Conclusion: The study demonstrates incomplete information and a positive ATTITUDE about REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH. Positive ATTITUDE of students about education of REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH, either to singles or to married youth were indicated for the first time. Special attention should be paid to the information gaps of different genders, ages and fields of studies in the future educational plans.
