Abstract

Introduction: Diarrhea is one of the important mortality and mobility factors in developing countries. It also causes malnutrition.This survey was carried out to determine Khorramabadian mothers, knowledge about diet of children suffering from diarrhea in 2002.Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive cross - sectional in which 384 mothers, referred to health care units, randomly selected, and a questionnaire containing questions about feeding in diarrhea distributed among them. After completing them and information proceeding, data analysis was performed using Spss-win software.Findings: Results cleared that there is no significant relation between maternal knowledge and their age (P>0.05). In regard to the relation between educational level and knowledge, results showed that among illiterate mothers 2.2% of them were in high level of awareness and 31.1% poorly informed .mothers having academic educations with rich and poor level of awareness were 25% and 10.4% respectively (P<0.05).There was a significant relation between number of children arid maternal knowledge to feed a child suffering from diarrhea (P<0.05). In the other words, the fewer the number of children is the more and better information about children"s diet they will have.Conclusion: Therefore maternal training in order to feed children suffering from diarrhea seems to be necessary.
