Abstract

Epiglue ® is an ethy 1-2 CYANOACRYLATE based tissue adhesive. CYANOACRYLATE has been used successfully as a tissue adhesive for the external application to fresh cuts and lacerations of the skin.The efficacy of the CYANOACRYLATE as a tissue adhesive for the non-tensional FLAPs of ORAL MUCOSA was studied. Patient required alveoplasty of the upper or lower jaw were selected. The full thickness mucoperiosteal FLAPs were reflected and the sharp bone margins were smooth. The edges of the FLAPs were repositioned and stabilized using a figure of eight tissue holder. The CYANOACRYLATE were transported by an applicator and brushed on top of the wound in two coatings. The patients were reviewed after 3,7,14 days.30 patients were treated (19 female and 11 male), 17 cases in the maxillae and 13 cases in the mandible. The mean age of the patients was 62 years. Epiglue ® can be use as a suturing material in the non - tensional full thickness mucoperiosteal FLAPs.
