Abstract

Introduction & Objective: Several studies have shown expression of estrogen and progesterone receptor (ER , PR) in BREAST CANCER, but little is known about the rule of ANDROGEN RECEPTOR. The aim of this study is to investigate the correlation among ANDROGEN RECEPTOR (AR) and biological behavior of BREAST CANCER, survival and other prognostic factors.Materials & Methods: This study was performed for 66 patient with invasive BREAST CANCER with prolonged fallow-up, immunohistochemical analysis (IHC) was performed for on formalin - fixed paraffin, embedded material, the result was analyzed for correlation with ER, PR, tumor grade and lymph nodes invasion status and survival.Results:.73.9% of grade I and 66.7% of grade II tumors were positive for ANDROGEN RECEPTOR (AR) but no AR expression is identified in grade III tumors (P<0.05).Positive AR was observed in 74.4% of ER positive and 81.8% of PR positive tumors (P<0.05).There was not significant association between AR expression with overall and disease free survival, recurrence, tumors size, patient age and lymph nodes metastasis (P>0.05).Conclusions: AR are commonly expressed in low grade tumors, AR was also associated with ER and PR expression.Although there is no association between AR with lymph nodes metastasis and survival, but patients with lymph node metastasis less than four, had a high expression of AR. Also AR is expressed in a higher number of patients with better overall and disease free survival.
