Abstract

Introduction & Objective: Intestinal ANASTOMOSIS is among the very first performed operations in general surgery era. Fast techniques for intestinal ANASTOMOSIS have been attractive since very long ago.Materials & Methods: In this experimental study, we used FIBRIN GLUE for intestinal ANASTOMOSIS in rats. Forty rats were divided to 2 equal groups. For groups 1, ANASTOMOSIS was performed with separate silk sutures (standard method of intestinal ANASTOMOSIS) and for group 2 (FIBRIN GLUE group), ANASTOMOSIS was done with the use of FIBRIN GLUE (without any silk suture support). These rats were then - operated at 5 and 10 post operation days. Information was analyzed with fisher ’s exact test (P value<0.05).Results: Results show that in one case (7.7%) of control group (group 1) and 5 (41.7%) cases of case group (FIBRIN GLUE group, group 2) has anastomotic LEAKage.Conclusions: An unexpected finding was severe MESENTERIC ISCHEMIA and inflammation in FIBRIN GLUE group. In our study, there isn’t any significant difference between LEAK number of 2 groups, but studies with larger cases are necessary for further evaluation. All cases of anastomotic LEAK had MESENTERIC ISCHEMIA that was due to direct contact of hardener component with mesentery.
