Abstract

The aim of the Present study was to examine the relationship between
parental perfectionism and students test anxiety. 422 third grade students
(237 girls, 205 boys) and 386 of their parents (212 mothers, 174 fathers) were
included in this study. All students and their parents were asked to complete
Test Anxiety Inventory and the Farsi Version of the Positive and Negative
Perfectionism Scale, respectively. The results revealed that parental positive
perfectionism was negatively associated with childrens test anxiety and
parental negative perfectionism was positively associated with childrens test
anxiety. Parental positive perfectionism is supposed to reduce childrens test
anxiety through realistic expectations, reinforcement of self-esteem, and
parent-child positive interactional style. And conversely parental negative
perfectionism seem to increase childrens test anxiety through unrealistic
expectations, impoverishment of self-esteem, and parent-child negative
interactional style.
