Abstract

Rickets and softening of the bones (Osteomalacia) are disorders in which mineralizing of skeleton organic matrix is defect.This study was carried out to determine rickets PREVALENCE rate in children under years old in Nurabad city.758 children were selected randomly as sample size and then clinical examinations ALK P test Ca, Ph, serum and wrist X-ray were done for each child.Results showed that the PREVALENCE of pathologic level of ALK p. in the treatment population were 10.02% (morbid level), 84% (normal level) and 5.08% (reduced level) receptively (<90 IU/LI).Higher PREVALENCE of rickets was associated with insufficient intake of vitamin D, number of children, LBW, history of similar disease in brother or sister and using anti- convulsant drugs. PREVALENCE of the disease was equal in both sexes and mean age of the patients was 2.4 years old.Among clinical signs, bow leg was the most common sign, accompanied radiologic findings in 95%of the patients, with elevated level of ALK Pin 61% of the cases.
