Abstract

Objective: Ionizing RADIATIONs may induce biologic responses that depend on many factors such as RADIATION factors as well as biological system factors. Patients with same type of Cancer and treatment regimen may show different RADIOSENSITIVITY which may be due to different specifications of their biological systems. Some reports indicate that there is an association between blood group and frequency of some types of Cancers. The main goal of the present study is the comparison of RADIOSENSITIVITY in different BLOOD GROUPS in healthy individuals by cytogenetic assay. Materials and Methods: Peripheral venous blood samples (10 ml) of 100 healthy people in different BLOOD GROUPS (A, B, AB and O) and positive RH are divided into two identical parts (5ml). One part is exposed to 2 Gy Co-60 gamma rays and the second part is considered as non- exposed controls. Lymphocytes are cultured in standard media and cytokinesis blocked to score micronuclei in bi-nucleated cells. The frequency of micronuclei in 1000 cells in each sample is considered as the rate of RADIOSENSITIVITY and is compared in different BLOOD GROUPS by appropriate statistical analysis. Results: A preliminary study of blood samples from 6 healthy people (4 B BLOOD GROUPS and 2 O BLOOD GROUPS) have shown that B blood group people are more radiosensitive than healthy people with O blood group Data analyze by t test from this samples (by CI: 95%) have shown that difference of RADIOSENSITIVITY between B blood group and O blood group is significant (p= 0.029). During the second phase of the investigation we will increase samples.
