Abstract

Introduction: PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERs and function of child and adolescent offsprings of bipolar PARENTS were compared to that of their peers with healthy PARENTS. Methods: In this case - control study, 52 bipolar PARENTS along with their 72 children were compared with 48 healthy and their 63 children. The subjects were selected by simple and available methods. K-SADS, C-GAS were to collect data. Statistical analysis was performed using Chi-square and t tests.Results: Relative frequency of PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERs (at least one disorder) was 51.4 perecent (38 people) in cases and 20.6 perecent (13 people) in controls. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.001). Both groups showed significant differences in mood and anxiety disorders as well as ADHD. According to C-GAS questionnaire the level of function was higher in the control group.Conclusion: PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERs and impairment of behavioral functioning among the offspring of bipolar PARENTS were higher that the controls.
