Abstract

This cross-sectional study was undertaken to determine the relative frequency and risk factors of L.B.W in Bandar Abbas. Subjects were live Births during 1999-2000 from whom 585 were selected through a multistage sampling and data was collected by a questionnaire. 49.5 % and 50.5 % of subjects were boys and girls, respectively. According to the results, relative frequency of L. B.W was 11.8% in boy infants, 16.2% in girl infants and 14% in all subjects. Relative frequency of L.B.W in women's infant with maternal age of under 18 was 25% and in those with age of 18-35 was 13.1% and in first and second pregnancy and in infants with family spacing of 24 months and over 24 months were 17%, 1%,9.9%,29.4% and 9.2%, respectively.
