Abstract

DEPRESSION disorder is one of the commonest complaints of pregnancy and delivery. There are diverse opinions about the prevalence of it. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of the postpartum DEPRESSION in two groups of primiparous and multiparous mothers.
The subjects were 164 women of whom 94 were primiparous and 70 were multiparous. A random sampling method was used. Two groups were matched in terms of factors affecting DEPRESSION. The subjects completed two questionnaires consisting of demographic information and Edinburgh DEPRESSION test, consecutively.
The results showed no significant difference (P> 0.05) in the prevalence of DEPRESSION in two groups of primiparous (14.29%) and multiparous (14.89%). 8.5% of multiparous subjects had severe DEPRESSION and 6.39% of them had mild DEPRESSION whereas all of the primiparous subjects had mild DEPRESSION.
