Title

A SURVEY ON EFFECTS OF ZINC OR ACETYLCHOLINE ESTERASE ACTIVITY AND AMOUNT OF CATECHOLAMINE IN ROLE SUPPLEMENTED BY CADMIUM

Pages

  310-314

Abstract

Background & Aims: Many studies are being carried out on toxic materials and their effects m essential body elements such as CADMIUM; most of its toxic effects are because of its interferences with body elements like ZINC. Moreover ZINC can interfere in CADMIUM's toxic effects because both are structurally alike and have identical ability in inducing METALLOTHIONINE.Materials & Methods: Deionized water was used in this study. Four groups, each consisting of 5 male rats were selected then CADMIUM (1mg) was injected to group one, CADMIUM and ZINC (0.5 mg) to group two, ZINC to group three, and normal saline to control group. Results: The rats were being treated in 30 to 60-day periods interaperitoneally; after the first 30 days the activity of ACETYLCHOLINE ESTERASE was measured in all three groups and the results show that it decreased compared with the control group i.e. respectively in brain cortex extract 21.3%, 5.7%, 16.2%, in mid brain 8.9% 4.9%, 3.5% and in cerebellum 11%, 4.5%, 7.9%. Furthermore, in the 60-day period the decrease continued as follows: respectively in brain cortex extract 40.8%, 25.9%, 8.8%, in mid brain20.2%, 5.8%, 3.7%, and in cerebellum 40.4%, 8.1%, 4.9%. Moreover, the amount of CATECHOLAMINE decreased compared with the control group in the 30-day period and it was respectively 13.7, 10.3,5.3, and in mid brain 21.6%, 18.1%,10.6%. Although the amount of CATECHOLAMINE decreased in cerebellum in CADMIUM group (9.8%) and in CADMIUM-zinc group (8.9%), it increased in ZINC group (7.1).Discussion: The results show that ZINC has protective effects on CADMIUM's toxic effects on brain.
