Abstract

Introduction: Recently, many studies on the therapeutic effects of GINGER including in treating respiratory disorders have been conducted. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of GINGER on the mechanical activity of adult male rat ISOLATED TRACHEA.Methods: In this experimental study, 15 adult male rats after preservation at laboratory conditions for one week, were anesthetized with an intraperitoneal injection of sodium phenobarbital, the trachea was removed and divided into pieces 3 mm. Then rings of ISOLATED TRACHEA apiece of mouses divided to control and experimental groups and were inserted in organ bath contained oxygenated krebs solution with 37oc temperature and PH=7.4, and associated with a force transducer connected to bridge amplifier and power lab system for recording CONTRACTILITY. After establishing the basic condition, mechanical activity was recorded in the experimental group in the presence of hydroalcoholic extract of GINGER (0.3 mg / ml) and control group in the presence of solvent extracts in the same conditions.Results: The results that hydroalcoholic extract of GINGER was relaxed of ISOLATED TRACHEA in the experimental group and it's mean of mechanical activity (Mean=0.5089) was observed significant decrease related to control group (Mean=0.3567), and this effect didn’t considerable change by acetylcholine (P<0.05).Conclusion: The GINGER extract has inhibitory effect on mechanical activity of ISOLATED TRACHEA and also had relaxation effect on it. It seems probably this effect is by inhibition of cholinergic pathway.
