Title

DETERMINATION OF THE PSYCHOPATHOLOGICAL PROFILE IN STUDENTS EXPOSED TO TRAUMA

Pages

  7-29

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the psychopathological profile of STUDENTS exposed to TRAUMA. The statistical population of this research comprised of boy STUDENTS who studied in Uremia high schools at first, second, and third grades (N=10286). One thousand of these STUDENTS, approximately 10 percent of this population, were selected by multistage cluster sampling method as the sample. They were asked to complete the Children TRAUMAtic Event Screening Inventory and the Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90-R) in group settings. Fifty four of the selected group refused to respond to these inventories and therefore, were excluded from the research. Participants were divided into 7 groups on the basis of the results of the Children TRAUMAtic Event Screening Inventory. The means of their scores at the indexes of SCL-90 were analyzed by MANOVA, ANOVA, and Scheffe tests. The results showed that at most indexes of SCL-90, groups which had experienced emotional abuse, mixed TRAUMAs, physical abuse, and accidents/disasters, had higher mea-ns respectively. This was especially obvious in depression and obsession-compulsion indexes. Furthermore, results showed that there were significant differences between groups with different TRAUMAs in indexes of SCL-90 and total scores of this scale. These results suggest that having experienced different TRAUMAtic events would lead to different psychological consequences.
