Abstract

Introduction: Maxillofacial FRACTUREs is an important problem of patients in the facial region . use of conventional Radiographic Techniques is very helpful in diagnosis and Treatment of this FRACTUREs.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the radiographic findings of MANDIBLE and the middle third of the face FRACTUREs in Mashhad dental school patients.Materials and Methods: 46 patients with MANDIBLE and 1/3 MID FACE injures referred to Mashhad dental school were evaluated for one year. The data including age sex radiographic techniques clinical finding and FRACTURE region were collected through a form.Results: 36 patients (%78.2) were male and 10 patients (%21.7) were female.The highest incidence was seen in the 3rd and 4th decades (%32.6) and the major cause of facial FRACTUREs was traffic accidents (%39.1).The most clinical sign observed was wound in the facial region (%52.2).The orthopantomogram was the most frequently used technique (%58.3) on the whole 72 FRACTUREs were observed among the patients condylar region was the most frequent region for FRACTURE.Conclusion: in spite of high indication of C.T scan for FRACTURE diagnosis, it is less recommended in Iran which may be due to high expenses. This study also revealed that the use of specific radiographic techniques was less frequent.
