BIOCHEMICAL STUDY OF THE RELATIONSHIP OF PHOSPHORUS CALCIUM AND ALKALIN PHOSPHATASE AND RESIDUAL RIDGE RESORPTION IN COMPLETE DENTURE PATIENTS

Abstract

 Introduction: Alveolar bone has special importance in prosthodontics. Resorbtion of residael ridge initiates from teeth extraction and continuing during life. In addition of senile phenomena, mineralization of bone skeletal and the forces that is made from the dentures to the basel seat is also another factors of bone resorbtion. The purpose of this study was evaluation of relationship between serum level of phesphorous, calcium and alkalin- photase, age, sex and duration of denture wearing and ridge resorbtion.Materials & Methods: Thirty complete denture patient including 15 men and 15 women with the average age of 54 years, were selected and O.P.G. radiography was done. Mental foramen was reference point for evaluating of residual ridge resorbtion. So by measuring the ridge resorbtion the subject divided in to two groups. The first with minimal and second with severe resorbtion. Serum level of phosphorous, calcium oral alkalin phosphatase was measured from two groups.Results: The factors were evaluated and compared. Finally no significant difference was found between residual ridge resorbtion and amount of calcium, phosphar us, and alkalin phosphatase in both groups.Conclusion: Comparison study of these two groups showed that:It wasn’t any significant relationship between sex, age and alveolar bone resorbtion but it was significant relationship between the resorbtion and duration of wearing the dentures.
