Abstract

Emergency ward is one of the most important wards of a hospital that its function can have a great effect on the other wards of the hospital as well as the patients, satisfaction. WAITING TIME in treatment centers, specially in emergency wards, has special importance in reducing the rate of mortality and disabilities.This cross - sectional study was carried out on all patients referred to KERMAN emergency ward of shahid Bohonar hospital time nurses observers. A questionnaire and a checklist were used as data gathering instruments, then the information was analyzed.Results showed that the mean WAITING TIME for patient's first visit by physician in screen room was 4 minutes; request for X-ray and its result 25min; lab tests, 40 min; CT scan, 31 min; performing procedures till diagnosis, 72 min; and WAITING TIME for surgery was 21 min.The most lost time in the KERMAN emergency ward were preclinical and consultation procedures. For most of the cases physicians and interns who were engaged in screening process were not matched to their specialty and expertise. It seems necessary to employ specialists who have sufficient expertise's and adequate knowledge about patient management.
