Abstract

Acne is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the pilosebaceous follicles which starts in adolescence and resolves by about twenties. ACNE vulgaris is a common dermatological problem which is observed in patients with POLYCYSTIC OVARIES too.This descriptive study was carried out on 80 patients with severe ACNE. The purpose of the study was to determine the frequency of POLYCYSTIC OVARIES in the patients referred to specialized clinic of shahid Rahimi hospital in Khoramabad from Aug ,1999 to jully, 2000 according their ULTRASONOGRAPHY. Results and findings showed that out of 80 patients with severe ACNE, fifty cases (62.5%) had PCO on altrasonography .The maximum frequency was in the age group of 20-24 years old (46.3%) and 45% of the patients had oligomenorrhea, 3.7% had infertility, 45% had family history of ACNE. Most of the patients complained of premenestural flare of ACNE.According to the findings it is better, for theses patients, to do ultrasonograply of ovaries before starting treatment.
