Abstract

Preventing PRETERM LABOR, which is one of the most expensive and troublesome complications of pregnancy, is of utmost importance in many cases. There are evidences suggesting that BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS is a risk factor in PRETERM LABOR. The present study was conducted to survey the prevalence of BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS in PRETERM LABOR compared with term labor. Samples were taken for direct examination and culture, from 300 cases, 100 preterm and 200 terms. Infection rate was observed to be 29% for the preterm and 12% for the terms. Also, no sign of increase was observed as for the prevalence of trachoma and Candida in the preterm group. Moreover, PRETERM LABORs of 24-30 weeks, especially those of 28 weeks, were often victims of bacterial infections. Therefore, it can be considered as diagnosable and treatable factor, which affects the onset of PRETERM LABOR.
