Abstract

This study was intended to determine the effects of TENS on the lessening of LABOR PAIN in primipara mothers. 120 primipara mothers were randomly assigned into three groups: the first group receiving the TENS with electricity current, the second without it and the third receiving no treatment, i.e. the third group was considered as the control group. Visual analog scale was used to measure the intensity of the LABOR PAIN. The results of data analysis indicated a significant relationship between pain intensity of the first phase of the labor in all three groups. Also, there was a significant difference between the three groups as for the duration of the first and second active phases of labor. In other words, pain intensity in the first group was significantly lowered in comparison with the other groups. Also, the duration sum of the first active phase and the second phase of labor in the first group was found to be shorter than that of the other two groups.
