Abstract

SELLAr and parascllar regions consist of pituitary gland, hypotary gland, hypothalamus , optic nerve and chiasma, internal carotid artery and branches, cavernous sinus and medial portion of temporal labe . In this cross-sectional study, we collected 58 cases of SELLAr and paraSELLAr tumors in Kerman from 1997 to 2001. 48% of the cases were male and 52% were female. Their mean age was 34.4± 19.3. The most common tumors were pituitary adenoma (41.4%), meningioma (24.2%), craniopharyngioma (20.7%) and astrocytoma (6.9%). Epidermoid tumor and chordoma (3.2%) were not as frequent (3.2%. Headache was the most common symptom in 82.8% cases. No significant difference was found between the two sexes as for the prevalence of the tumors . But significant statistical difference was found in their mean ages. The findings suggested that pituitary adenoma was the most frequent tumor in the region like other studies
