Abstract

There has been a concern if the administration of General English language test would, like a sieve, eliminate those candidates who do not have a good command of English or not. Fortunately, statistics obtained from a series of tests show that there is a positive relationship between General English scores of2124 candidates and their scores on technical fields. In other words, statistics show that those candidates who get high scores on General English test, perform quite well on science courses too. We can, therefore, consider the General English test as one of the stages of PhD entrance exam in order to upgrade the level of the English tests at PhD level.
