Abstract

HIV/AIDS is a main health problem of the recent century. Youth and adolescents are at the center of this universal epidemic. SCHOOLS have high potentional for educational interventions in order to increasing student's knowledge and attitude toward HIV/AIDS: in this interventional study (Before & After) participated 411 3rd grade middle school students (male) from two educational regions who were selected through simple random sampling and clustered sampling. This study performed in three stages: 1. The reliable and valid questionnaire (containing demographic characteristics, knowledge's questions and attitude's questions) were completed by students. 2. HEALTH EDUCATION program regarding HIV/AIDS were hold for students. 3. 4 week after of HEALTH EDUCATION program, students completed that same questionnaire. Findings analyzed with descriptive and analytical statistics and utilized parametric and non parametric testes such as paired T test, T test, One-Way ANOVA, Chi-Square and Pearson correlation. Student's knowledge about HIV/AIDS was poor and there were misconceptions about transmission ways of this infection. Their attitude toward HIV/AIDS was undesired too. There was a significant relationship between primary knowledge and 'age (p=0.02), father education level (p=0.017), mother education level (p=0.007) and father job (p=0.001). Primary attitude only had significant relationship with father education level (p=0.003). Increasing in attitude had significant relationship with age (p=0.003) and HEALTH EDUCATION program was more effective on students aged 13. Entirely HEALTH EDUCATION program was effective on increasing student's knowledge and attitude (p =0.0001). The result of this study indicated that if educational interventions about HIV/AIDS was perform in lower age (e.g. students in middle SCHOOLS) it achieves better results.
