Abstract

The main purpose of comparative studies in education is to learn from other countries' experiences in improving their educational system, rather than transferring the achievements of one country to another. In the area of moral and religious education, many countries like Japan, England, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia have incorporated it into their curricula at different levels. In Iranian elementary schools this type of education is offered through special textbooks as well as the language and social studies text books. The teaching method used in Iran has been the traditional method of memorization of the presented material for the purpose of regurgitation and gaining a grade, while ignoring other, since 1958, an hour of moral education is conducted in both elementary and high schools using different strategies like the combinatory approach wherein the moral values are learned along with the scientific concepts.The purpose of the present paper is to highlight the similarities and Differences between Iran and the four countries mentioned above, in their Curricula in terms of outlooks, goals, contents, and methods of teaching and evaluation.
