THE EFFECTS OF BRAINSTORMING TECHNIQUES ON CREATIVITY OF FEMALE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN AHVAZ, IRAN

Abstract

 This research is an experimental study conducted to determine the effects of brainstorming training on CREATIVITY of female university students in Ahvaz, with controlling for intelligence. The original sample of this study consisted of 91 Shahid Chamran University students in the academic year of 2001- 2002,who were selected randomly. The scales used for this study were as follow: 1) Raven Progressive Matrix scale for measuring intelligence in groups, 2) Abedi CREATIVITY Scale for measuring CREATIVITY in groups and 3) Guilford Adopted CREATIVITY Scale for measuring CREATIVITY and investigating the validity of Abedi CREATIVITY Scale. Research design was a pre-test, post-test experimental and control groups. Both experimental and control groups were pretested by Raven, Abedi and Guilford scales, then the experimental groups participated in eight sessions of BRAINSTORMING TECHNIQUES, which included the following topics: random words, random pictures and SCAMPER. Control group received no training in CREATIVITY. After that, again the groups were post tested. The results of covariance and independent groups' t-test showed that the CREATIVITY of the two groups were significantly different. Also the results of multiple analysis of variance (MANOVA) showed that the three domanins of CREATIVITY (fluency, flexibility and originality) were significantly different in groups. On Abedi CREATIVITY Scale, the groups acted differently in the three CREATIVITY domains, except for elaboration. The results of this research suggest that training in BRAINSTORMING TECHNIQUES (random word, random picture and SCAMPER) has positive effects on CREATIVITY among female university students.
