Abstract

Introduction: Ferulagoangulata plant is native to Iran and west regions. It has been used as a traditional medicine. It can prevent the food spoilage, by adding to dairy products, especially oil and provide savory pleasant flavor. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to examine the effects of this plant on four strains of pathogenic bacteria.Materials & methods: To investigate the antimicrobial activity, the test was used by methods, DISK-DIFFUSION at different concentrations of extract (12.5, 25, 50, 100, 200 and 400 mg/ml) on two types of gramnegative bacteria Escherichia coli and Klebsiellaoxitoca and two gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Entrococcusfaecalis. Antimicrobial activity of extracts was compared with tetracycline and gentamicin.Findings: The most sensitive bacteria, Escherichia coli with maximum inhibition zone diameter (23±1mm) and MIC, 25 mg/ml. Extract revealed greater inhibitory effects on gram-negative bacteria than Gram-positive bacteria. Antimicrobial activity is reduced by reducing the concentration of the extract.Discussion & Conclusion: The Ferulagoangulata extract has an anti-bacterial property. Then native plantains effects are valuable for further research to identify therapeutic properties.
