Investigating the role of social support, emotional regulation and spiritual well-being in COVID-19 related anxiety

Abstract

 Introduction & Objective: The outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as a stressful event can lead to Anxiety and other psychological problems in the general population. It is important to look at the factors that can help prevent coronaviruse disease. This study aimed to assess the role of perceived Social Support, Emotional Regulation, and Spiritual Well-being in predicting coronavirus Anxiety among the general population of Mazandaran province in Iran Methods: The present research method was a descriptive web-based correlation. 292 participants were selected by available sampling through social networks. The Corona Anxiety Inventory, The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Emotion Regulation Questionnaire and Spiritual Wellbeing were used to collect data. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regressions. Results: The results showed that there was significant relationship betweena perceived Social Support (P= 0. 001, R=0. 224), cognitive reappraisal (P=0. 001, R=0. 247), Emotional suppression (P=0. 04, R=0. 274) Spiritual Well-being (P=0. 100, R=0. 306) and coronavirus Anxiety. The results of regression analysis showed that the research variables predict 19/5% of coronavirus Anxiety, among which Spiritual Well-being had the largest share in predicting coronary Anxiety. Conclusion: Considering the role of Social Support, Emotional Regulation and Spiritual Well-being in coronavirus Anxiety, it is necessary to pay attention to these factors, especially Spiritual Well-being in designing psychological interventions to reduce the Anxiety of non-clinical populations during COVID-19 outbreak.
