Abstract

Purpose: Addiction as one of the social problems is common among people in the community, especially young people, which can have various social, health, occupational and legal harms. In this regard, the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Parent-Child Conflict and Loneliness as a precursor to drug addiction in Students. Materials and Methods: The research method was descriptive-correlational. The research sample consisted of 200 Abadan medical Students who were selected by available methods. Data collection tools included the Drug Addiction Scale (2001), the Adolescent Conflict with Parents Questionnaire (CBQ) (1979), and the Revised Loneliness Scale (UCLA) (1980). Findings: Simple correlation and stepwise regression were used to analyze the data. Pearson correlation coefficients were obtained between the Parent-Child Conflict with the Tendency to Use Drugs = r = 0. 39 and the feeling of Loneliness with the Tendency to Use Drugs = r = 0. 33, which are all significant. The results of stepwise regression also showed that Parent-Child Conflict and feelings of Loneliness significantly predict the Tendency to Use Drugs among Students. Conclusion: As a result of resolving conflicts between parents and children, as well as paying attention to Students' individual problems, it can be effective in preventing addiction and their high-risk behaviors.
