Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide a conceptual model of contexts and strategies to increase Emotional Intelligence in Adolescents based on the lived experience of Mothers. Materials and Methods: For this purpose, in a qualitative design with a grounded theory approach that has advanced to the stage of selective coding, 12 Mothers of Adolescents with high Emotional Intelligence were selected using purposive sampling. In order to screen Adolescents with high Emotional Intelligence, the Bar-On Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire was used and a semi-structured interview was used to collect data from the Mothers of these Adolescents. A systematic method was used to examine the content of the interviews, conceptualize and extract the categories. Findings: The analysis of participants' experiences led to the identification of 47 free identifiers, 16 axial identifiers and 4 theoretical identifiers including components, contexts, contexts, consequences and factors interfering in the process of increasing Emotional Intelligence. Conclusion: Accordingly, the family has the most important role in developing children's Emotional Intelligence. Using the findings of this study, family education sessions can be held to provide practical solutions for developing children's Emotional Intelligence, which are derived from the experiences of successful Mothers, in addition to counselors and teachers who are interested in this field. They can use the findings of this research.
