Abstract: 

Background and Objective: One of the main sources of tension and anxiety for parents is hospitalization of child in hospital. Considering the importance of family-centered care, it is essential to understand the needs of parents in order to provide them. This study was conducted to identify the needs of parents during child hospitalization.Materials and Method: The current qualitative study was conducted through conventional content analysis. Eighteen parents of hospitalized children in pediatric ward of hospitals in the city of Yazd in 2012 were selected through purposive sampling and semi-structured interviews were done. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative content analysis.Results: Data analysis revealed “the continuing role of parent” as the major theme. This theme is including the five main categories of need to receive information, need to participate in care, need to comfort, need to psychological-emotional support and need to peace of mind.Conclusion: Based on the results, it is essential that nurses focus on the identified needs of parents and try to meet them in order to maintain the role of parent and thus improving the quality of child care.

Abstract: 

Background and Objective: Maintain a normal heart rate in newborns in intensive care unit is an important goal in neonatal care. Non-pharmaceutical interventions in this area are important. The current study was conducted aimed to determine the effect of Quran and lullaby on heart rate changes of hospitalized neonates in NICU.Materials and Method: The current clinical trial study was done on 78 hospitalized newborns in neonatal intensive care unit in one of the hospitals in Jahrom in 2013-2014. Newborns were selected through convenience sampling and then were randomly allocated to three groups, Quran, Lullaby and control groups. The newborne in two intervention groups listened to lullaby or Quran via headphones during 3 days and daily for 20 minutes and in control group, headphone was laid without voice for newborns. The heart rate of newborns was recorded immediately before the interventuion, 10 and 20 minutes after the starting the intervention and finally 20 minutes after the completion of it. Data were analyzed through SPSS 19 using Greenhouse - Geisser test, ANOVA and repeated measures ANOVA.Results: The mean of heart rate of neonates in lullaby group, Quran and control groups before the intervention was respectively 135.7±6.15, 140.56±14.97 and 132.21±25.21 that the difference between them was not statistically significant, but the mean change of their heart rate was significantly lower in twentieth minute in the second day in lullaby group (126.67±11.22) in compare with control group (134.31±18.31) and Quran group (138.81±19.12) (P=0.016).Conclusion: With attention to the effect of lullaby in the second day on decreas the heart rate changes, this method can be used in the neonatal intensive care unit. Also, according to the healing effects of Quran, more research in this area is recommended.

Abstract: 

Background and Objective: Triage is essential for classification of patients in order to providing the best treatment and their transport to medical centers. The concordance of triage level between emergency medical technicians and triage nurses increases the accuracy and reduce of delivery time of patients, however; the results of some studies demonstrated the poor triage of patients. This study was conducted aimed to determine the overall concordance of triage level between emergency medical technicians, triage nurses and instructor.Materials and Method: In this descriptive study, one instructor, 5 triage nurses and 30 emergency medical technicians participated through census in Iranshahr in 2014. Data collection tools were the demographic information form and “Emergency Severity Index” triage form. 78 patients were triaged separately by emergency medical technicians, triage nurses and instructor (as criteria). The overall concordance was assessed by kappa coefficient using SPSS 16.Results: The Kappa coefficient about the overall concordance of triage between emergency medical technicians and triage nurses was 0.20, between emergency medical technicians and instructor was 0.10 and between triage nurse and instructor was 0.19Conclusion: According to the results, the overall concordance in triage level between triage nurse, emergency medical technicians and instructor was poor. Therefore, triage training courses and implementation of common triage is suggested for increase the agreement rate and reduce the time of patient transfer.

Abstract: 

Background and Objective: Newborn admission to the neonatal intensive care unit is associated with many complications. One of the solutions to reduce the complications is providing nursing care according to admission standards. This study was conducted aimed to determine the conformity rate of nursing care during newborn admission with the standards in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs).Materials and Method: In this cross-sectional study, 267 neonatal nursing care during admission to NICUs in selected educational hospitals in Qazvin, in 2014 were selected and observed with quota sampling event. Data were gathered through demographic questionnaire for nurses and hospitalized newborns, checklist of neonatal nursing care during admission. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics using SPSS 21.Results: Conformity rate of nursing care during neonatal admission with the standards in neonatal intensive care units was 51 percent. Moreover, 36.84 percent of nursing care during neonatal admission was desirable, 14.03 percent was moderate, and 49.12 percent was poor.Conclusion: According to results, nurses’ performance concerning the nursing care during the admission was in moderate level in compare with standards. It is recommended the application of nursing clinical guide during the newborn admission and clinical supervision by nurse managers about optimizing the performance in order to improving quality of care.

Abstract: 

Background and Objective: Patients after lumbar disc herniation surgery experience chronic pain and disability and can impact on their quality of life. This study aimed to determine the effect of movement therapy on quality of life of patients after lumbar disc herniation surgery.Materials and Method: The current clinical trial study with before and after design in three stages was done on patients with lumbar disc herniation surgery in one of the hospitals in Isfahan in 2013. Patients were selected through convenience sampling and then were randomly allocated into two intervention and control groups (32 patients in each group). The movement program was implemented 4 weeks after surgery for 2 weeks. Data were collected through demographic questionnaire and SF-36 quality of life questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS-18 using independent t-test and repeated measures ANOVA.Results: There has been a significant increase in the mean of overall quality of life score in intervention group 6 weeks (65.2±7.45) and 3 months after intervention (70.9±8.2), in compare with before the intervention (31.5±6.05) (p<0.001). Also the mean of overall quality of life score showed the significant difference in two groups (p<0.001). Physical and psychological aspects increased significantly in both groups in the period of 6 weeks and 3 months after intervention, the increase was greater in intervention group than control group. (p<0.001).Conclusion: Movement therapy promotes the quality of life of patients after lumbar disc herniation surgery. Thus, using this program by health care professionals in improving the quality of life of patients is recommended.

Abstract: 

Background and Objective: Coronary angiography is one of the most common diagnostic procedures in cardiac patients that can increase the level of anxiety. Anxiety also is a risk factor for cardiac disease. The present study aimed to determine the effect of acupressure at the hearts shenmen (HE-7) and the third eye (Yintang) on anxiety in patients undergoing coronary angiography.Materials and Method: This randomized controlled trial was conducted on patients undergoing coronary angiography in one of the hospitals in Rafsanjan in 2015. 135 patients were randomly divided into three groups of 45 people. Two intervention groups received acupressure 30 minutes before angiography for 5 minutes in point's yintang and hearts shenmen and control group received acupressure on false points near the thenar muscles. Anxiety of patients was measured one hour before and 10 minutes after the intervention. Data collection tools were including demographic form and Spielberger’s questionnaire. Data analysis was done using SPSS 18 and paired t-tests, independent T-test, and ANOVA.Results: After intervention the mean score of anxiety in the yintang group was decreased from 70.53±16.3 to 62.06±13.4 and in hearts shenmen group from 67.80±14.9 to 60.46±15.2 (p<0.001). This difference between intervention and control groups was significant (p=0.04).Conclusion: Acupressure is effective in reducing anxiety in patients undergoing coronary angiography, thus; it is recommended as a method for reducing the anxiety before angiography.

Abstract: 

Background and Objective: Appropriate clinical environment has an important role in preparing students to use learned knowledge in practice through providing learning opportunities. Since the students’ experiences in the clinical setting affect on quality of their learning, the current study aimed to explain the experiences of nursing students concerning clinical education setting.Materials and Method: The current study was conducted based on conventional content analysis. Sampling was done purposively and the participants were 13 last year nursing students in Zabol Nursing and Midwifery School in 2013-2014. Data collection was done through in-depth semi-structured interviews. Data analysis was conducted through qualitative content analysis approach.Results: Based on the results, five major categories including threats, vision, dual forces, mindset and students’ action to clinical education and also10 subcategorie were identified.Conclusion: Since the formation of students’ experiences in these environments is one of the predictive factors in achieving their learning and in facilitating the professionalization process, thus; the attention of managers in clinical settings is very important for decreasing the threats and concerns for students. In this way, the marred prospects of profession can be recovered through the meeting students’ expectations, attractiveness of the profession can be increased and the positive belief, actions and feelings can be created in students.

Abstract: 

Background and Objective: Multiple sclerosis (MS) as one of the major causes of disability in the world, can create a sense of hopelessness in patient. Thus; the application of self-care methods is very important for these patients. The current study was conducted to determine the effect of self-care educational program based on Orem’s Theory on hope in patients with Multiple sclerosis.Materials and Method: In this clinical trial study, 88 patients with multiple sclerosis who were registered in MS Association of Zahedan, were selected through convenience sampling and then randomly allocated into two intervention and control groups of 44 people in 2014-2015. Then, nine educational sessions were designed and conducted according to patients’ needs based on Orem’s Theory. The rate of implementing the program by patients was measured through a self-report checklist. The hope of patients was measured by Snyder Hope Scale before and 3 months after the intervention. Data were analyzed by SPSS 16 using independent T-test, paired t-test and Chi-square.Results: The mean of total hope score, aspects of pathway thinking and agency thinking didn’t show significant difference between two groups before and after the intervention, but the mean of change score of total hope and aspects of pathway thinking and agency thinking in intervention group was increased significantly after the educational program in compare with control group (p<0.001).Conclusion: According to the results, implementation of Orem’s self-care program can increase the hope in patients with MS. Given the limitations of the present study, further studies is recommended.
