Abstract:

Introduction: The current changes in the society has led to an increase in the number of working females and it is important to investigate how these women handle both work and family roles, especially when they are appointed difficult shift work such as nursing jobs. This study aimed at exploring "how female nurses play their work and family roles".Methods: In this qualitative study, data was gathered from 20 female nurses, who were working at two educational hospitals via both individual and focus group interviews. Grounded theory presented by Strauss and Corbin 1998 guided the data analysis. Results: Five categories emerged, including hard working conditions, high family role, ineffective support resources, and dissatisfaction. The emerged core category was "striving for continuity of work and family situation".Conclusions: Nurses faced inadequate support resources and mainly relied on their own abilities to play their family and work roles, thus their basic needs, such as sleep and rest was neglected. Finally, the health of nurses was affected and they perceived dissatisfaction, which led to low work efficiency and decreased quality of health care. Consideration of the health of nurses and improving their working conditions is recommended.

Abstract:

Introduction: Attachment is one of the most important factors influencing marital satisfaction, therefore, this study aimed at investigating the correlation between attachment styles and marital satisfaction among working nurses. Methods: The study had a cross- correlative design. The study population consisted of all nurses at university hospitals of Khorramabad during year 2014, and 150 individuals were selected by the stratified random sampling method. Data were collected through questionnaires, including adult attachment and Enrich marital satisfaction. Using descriptive statistics, such as mean and standard deviation, and inferential statistics, such as Pearson's correlation and regression analysis, the data were analyzed with the SPSS version 20 software. Results: Pearson correlation coefficient showed that there was a positive correlation between marital satisfaction and secure attachment (r=0.38, P=0.001) and with avoidance attachment (r=-0.25, P=0.001), yet there was no correlation between marital satisfaction and ambivalent attachment style (r=-0.063, P=0.378). The regression results also showed that about 40% of the variance attachment styles explained marital satisfaction; therefore, secure attachment styles with beta- beta avoidance of 0.322 and -0.132 were effective in predicting results. Conclusions: Given that marital satisfaction is predicted by attachment styles, it is important to recognize the attachment styles of nurses in order to improve their marital satisfaction.

Introduction: Patients with brain tumors due to limited treatment, poor prognosis, and adverse consequences of illness, experience high anxiety that reaches maximum levels at the time of surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of preoperative education on preoperative anxiety in patients with brain tumor under stereotaxic biopsy. Methods: In this quasi- experimental study, 40 patients with brain tumors were selected with the convenience sampling method. The sample underwent face to face training before the surgery for thirty minutes. Before and after training, patients' anxiety levels were measured by the DASS questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the PASW software and through descriptive and inferential statistics. P of<0.05 was considered significant. Results: The sample included 24 males (60%) and 16 females (40%), aged 18 to 63 years, with mean age of 42.9±13.6. Most cases were married (92.5%) and had primary education to diploma (47.5%). The mean score of patients' anxiety before sampling was 21.5±5.7, and after the education it was reduced to 16.1±6.2 (P=0.001).Conclusions: Face to face training is a training method that could be used to reduce preoperative anxiety. In this way, nurses could adjust training and present content according to the needs of patients.

Introduction: One problem that arises when caring for patients with respiratory diseases is setting of oxygen with current flow meters, which needs monitoring by proficient nurses. This study aimed at designing a flow meter for oxygen setting in patients with respiratory diseases. Methods: This device was registered in Real Estate Registration Organization of Iran with the following code 91414 dated 27/3/2017. The digital flow meter includes one flow meter, digital display screen, pulse oximeter input, entrance and exit of oxygen. The amount of needed oxygen for the patient is determined by the hemoglobin saturation level of the oxygen (Spo2) and delivery to the patient is by an automatic ally or manually. Display of delivered oxygen to the patient and heart rate in the digital method and existence of acoustic alarms that announce disconnection of oxygen are other functions of this device. Results: Application of this device could reduce concerns about delivery of less or more oxygen than needed by patients, especially at home. Conclusions: The digital flow meter is a safe device for delivery of oxygen to respiratory patients.Basis of this device is delivery of oxygen by hemoglobin saturation level. The researchers suggest clinical trial studies to demonstration the clinical function of this device.

Introduction: Disabilities have a physical and psychological dimension and as they affect one' s physical health, they also affects psycho-social adjustment and psychological well-being. The aim of this study was to determine the Effectiveness of happiness training program based on Fordyce cognitive behavioral theory on quality of life and ability to tolerate the disorder in women with physical-motor disabilities. Methods: This study was quasi-experimental. The study population included all females with physical-motor disabilities registered at the Association of Physical- Motor Disabilities of Ardabil city, among which 30 were selected by the available sampling method and were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. After running the pretest on both groups, the experimental intervention was carried out during 8 sessions of 90 minutes each and with one session per week. After completion of the treatment program, the post-test was taken. To collect the data, the World Health Organization Quality of Life Questionnaire and Simon and Gahr distress tolerance scale was used. Also, for data analysis, analysis of covariance was performed. Results: The results showed that there were significant differences between the two groups in mean scores of quality of life and distress tolerance after happiness training. The scores of quality of life and distress tolerance in the experimental group were significantly increased after the training of happiness based on the Fordyce cognitive behavioral theory (P>0.001).Conclusions: According to the obtained results, it could be suggested that training of happiness based on the Fordyce cognitive behavioral theory could improve the quality of life and ability to tolerate the disorder in females with physical- motor disabilities.

Abstract:

Introduction: Increased incidence of dementia is one of the outcomes of old age. These patients, due to disruptions in cognition, behavior and performance, rely on other people, usually familial observers, for their personal tasks. Diversity and adversity of caring roles lead to mental problems for observers (depression, anxiety, and stress) and on the other hand, illness of a family member causes problems in family performance. Thus, evaluation of family performance could be a suitable predictor of mental health of a family. Methods: This was a cross- sectional study. Overall, 150 familial caregivers of elderly patients with dementia, referring to the Alzheimer's association, participated in this analysis. Data were collected through the demographic questionnaire, McMaster family function, Beck depression, Zuong anxiety, and perceived stress questionnaire of observers, and the analysis was conducted by Pearson correlation coefficient test, analysis of variance, Scheffe post hoc test, multi- variate stepwise linear regression, and the SPSS software. Results: Family functioning in study observers is impaired in all aspects except the problem and there is a significant negative correlation between all subscales of family performance and depression, anxiety, and stress of observers. Family performance is able to predict changes in depression, anxiety, and stress of familial observers of patients with dementia. Aspects of behavior control was able to explained 1.19% of the variance of anxiety and 9.19% of the variance of stress in caregivers, as well as aspects of behavior control, roles, and emotional companionship, and 3.45% of the variance of depression in caregivers were able to be explained. Conclusions: Results of this study showed that family functioning is one of the most important factors affecting depression, anxiety and stress of familial observers. Thus, studying the dimensions of family functioning shows which aspects are affected by these disorders.

Introduction:: Nurses as the largest professional group in the health care system, encounter numerous stressors in the workplace, which can threaten their quality of work life and general health. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between general health and quality of work life of nurses working in Zahedan teaching hospitals. Methods: In this cross- sectional study, the research population was all nurses working in Zahedan teaching hospitals during year 2016. Overall, 240 nurses were enrolled with a multi-stage sampling method based on the ratio of nurses in the hospitals. Data collection tools were personal characteristics questionnaire, General Health Questionnaire-28 (GHQ-28), and Walton's Quality of Work Life (QWL). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Pearson correlation using the SPSS 22 software. Results: The mean score of nurses' general health was 56.83±11.69 and quality of work life of nurses was 114±61.33. In total, 48.7% reported undesirable general health. Furthermore, 29.3% of nurses had poor quality of work life and 42.1% reported average quality of work life. There was no significant correlation between quality of work life and general health of nurses. Conclusions: Although the relationship between quality of work life and general health of nurses was not significant in this study, nearly half of the cases had poor general health and average quality of working life. It is essential for health managers and policymakers to develop appropriate programs and strategies to continuously monitor and promote the general health and quality of working life of nurses.
