Abstract: 

Introduction: Maternal health in pregnancy is one of the most crucial ways to maintain maternal and fetal health. Pioneer physicians of Iranian traditional medicine have focused their efforts on maintaining the individual and community health and have recommended simple health-promoting and functional instructions during pregnancy that in this study, these guidelines have been summarized and compared and contrasted with new articles and researches.Methods: In this review and library study, the main resource textbooks of traditional medicine and new studies have been evaluated and the findings of scientists of modern medicine were briefly compared with those of traditional medicine, and new researches on nutrition, sexual intercourse, bathing and mental and emotional status and lifestyle during pregnancy were reviewed in Google Scholar, Pubmed, Magiran, SID, Irandoc, and Iranmedex databases.Results: In perspective of Iranian traditional medicine, to maintain healthy life and prevention from the incidence of diseases, observing some principles is necessary which are titled as six principles of maintaining health that precise and practical recommendations are suggested about health of climate, food, balanced physical activity, sleeping and wakefulness, custody and disposal of waste materials from the body, and specially mental health.Conclusion: Regarding the meticulous attention of Iranian Tradition Medicine scholars to maternal healthcare during pregnancy, perhaps now we can use the findings of physicians about pregnancy health issues and ideas and research findings related to this period and lay the foundation of researches on the statement and experiences of great scholars and practitioners such as Avicenna and Razi.

Abstract: 

Introduction: Kangaroo mother care method is a standardized care based on protocol that its basis is skin t skin contact between baby and mother, and its aim is to empower the mother to gradually gain the skills and responsibility to care of baby child and empowers the mother to cope with the physical and emotional needs of the child. This study was performed aimed to evaluate the effect of kangaroo mother care on postpartum maternal general health status.Methods: This randomized clinical trial study was conducted on 100 postpartum women in Ahvaz Imam Khomeini hospital at 2014. Participants were divided into two groups, Kangaroo mother care and routine care of baby and were followed up to 2 months after delivery to assess the general health status. Data collection tools were demographic questionnaire, and Goldenberg general health questionnaire. Data was analyzed by SPSS software (version 19) and independent t-test, chi-square test, and one-way ANOVA test. PResults: According to the results of the sub-scales of Goldenberg General Health Questionnaire before the study in intervention group, most disorder was related to social function (98%) and lowest disorder was related to depression (44%) and items of general health score had been improved in the assessment of first week, first month, and second month after the intervention. Most and lowest disorder related to the results of total score of general health in the intervention group, before the intervention was 98%, and in the first and second month after the intervention was 0%.Conclusion: Skin to skin contact for mother and newborn is effective for improved items of general health) physical health, anxiety, social functioning, depression). Therefore, with regard to the usefulness and no costs of this method, it is recommended for promotion of maternal health and considering other benefits, it is recommended to perform it after delivery.

Abstract: 

Introduction: Depression is one of the most common mental disorder caused by stress. To combat with stress-induced chemical changes in biological systems, firstly antioxidant defense and then non-enzymatic antioxidants such as vitamin C, E and Beta Carotene are involved. The present study was performed with the aim of with improving stress-induced depression evaluate the effect of vitamin C on depression in postmenopausal women.Methods: This double-blind, randomized controlled trial was performed on 150 menopausal women in Shiraz Hafez hospital at 2013. The participants were placed in two groups of vitamin C and placebo. The intervention group received 500 mg of vitamin C twice daily for six months and a control group received a placebo with the same method. Beck questionnaire was completed before and after the intervention and depression score was assessed. Data was analyzed with use of SPSS version 15 and Paired t-test and repeated measures of variance analysis and analysis of covariance. PResults: By comparing depression scores before and after the intervention, there was no significant difference between two groups (P>0.05) .Also, no significant difference was observed between vitamin c group (P=0.365 and) the placebo group (P=0.215) in terms of depression scores before and after intervention.Conclusion: Results of the studies reported that the effects of vitamin C and other antioxidants is as an adjunctive effective factor in the treatment of depression and anxiety. This study did not obtain this result and requires further investigation.
